Sharad Navratri 2026

Navaratri literally means "nine nights" in Sanskrit, coming from nava (nine) and ratri (night). It is a major Hindu festival dedicated to the worship of the divine feminine and the goddess Durga.

Sharad Navratri 2026 begins with Ghatasthapana on Sunday, October 11, 2026, and concludes with Vijayadashami (Dussehra) on Tuesday, October 20, 2026.

Core Meaning and Symbolism

• Word Origin: Sanskrit words nava meaning nine and ratri meaning night.
• The Divine Feminine: The festival honors Goddess Durga and her various manifestations, celebrating the triumph of good over evil.
• Spiritual Renewal: Nighttime worship symbolizes moving past inner darkness, ego, and ignorance (tamas) into purity and wisdom.
